Study Guide

An ecosystem is a community of living organisms in which plants and animals exist.

Algae are a type of aquatic organism without roots, stems, or leaves.

Mosquito fish have good eyesight, are covered with protective scales, and breathe with gills.

Duckweed is a tiny floating plant that grows on the surface of ponds.

Ecology is the science of the relationship of plants and animals to each other and their environment.

Mantle is an organ inside a snail which secretes the shell.

Radula is a tongue in the mouth of the snail that has tiny teeth for filing down food.

Isopods are close relatives to lobsters, crabs, and shrimp.

We add plants to aquariums to put oxygen, food, and shelter in the water for animals.  They are also beautiful to look at.

Snails have a soft body covered by a hard shell, the soft part of the body sticks out of the shell, they are made of muscle to help them move, and the foot releases a thin film that the snail glides over.

Seeds need water and warm temperatures to germinate.

Crickets have three parts:  head, thorax, and abdomen.

Acid rain can damage plants, animals, and buildings.  It can hurt a plant’s roots and damage leaves.
