Dear Students and Parents,
I am writing this letter with both sadness and joy. Sadness, because I am leaving the classroom and a wonderful group of students and colleagues. Joy, because I will remain at Glasgow working on an important project that will affect all the children in our school. As of Monday, December 11, I will become co-Director with Mrs. Ursula Ellis, a member of our community, of GEAR-UP (Gaining Early Awareness and Readiness for Undergraduate Programs).
As you may know, in September Glasgow Middle School was awarded a major grant by the Department of Education to establish GEAR-UP at Glasgow. In partnership with community, business, education, and other organizations, this program will promote increased college attendance rates for all Glasgow students. For me, it is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity, an exciting and challenging endeavor that will combine my classroom experience with my work as an independent college counselor.
I know that all of you will join me in welcoming and supporting whoever is selected as the Phoenix Team’s new English teacher. Dr. Tarazi is searching for the right replacement, and I will work with that person to make the transition as easy as possible for all concerned.
Thank you for being so terrific. Students, this is not goodbye. You will find me every day in the GEAR-UP office in Glasgow’s cafeteria, and I’ll be looking for you!
