Mustang High School English IV and Creative Writing I, II, III, and IV Instructor
English IV stresses two disciplines, the process of writing and the study of English literature.  Students learn to apply grammar skills through the writing activities.  Vocabulary Study occurs with the learning of 10 new words each week and testing of those words and the previous words each Thursday.

2.  Composition--Reviewing the Writing Process

3.  Composition--Avoiding Major Writing Errors
                 Fragments, Comma Splices, and Run-On's
                 "Not to Be" Theory

4.  Literature--The Medieval Period
                The Canterbury Tales by Geoffrey Chaucer

5.  Composition--Writing a Cause and Effect Essay

6.  Composition--Avoiding Common Usage Problems

7.  Composition--Parallel Structure

8.  Composition--Writing a Book Review over a British Novel

9.  Literature--Animal Farm by George Orwell

Second Semester

10. Literature--The Importance of Being Earnest by Oscar Wilde

11. Composition--Writing the Research Paper

12. Literature--Lord of the Flies by William Golding

13. Literature--Macbeth and selected sonnets by William Shakespeare

14. Literature--A Survey of English Poetry

Major writing tasks will be assigned for each of the literature units listed above.
