WHAT IF?
         WHAT ELSE??
                       WHAT THEN???

This is a weekly Critical Thinking game for APN students. Questions may address any topic in med-surg nursing! Your responses should be from the viewpoint of your future role as a professional nurse.
[adapted from Free, Kathleen Walsh; "What If? What Else? What Then? A Critical Thinking Game" Copyright;1999 - used by permission 8/00]

Up to one point is awarded for each answer the instructor assesses as correct and valid [total max of 6 pts, up to 2 points per question]. Formulating more than one answer is encouraged!!! These points will be averaged in with the Critical Thinking portion of your course grade.

You should submit your answers by email to:

               karened@greatnurse.com

NO LATER THAN NOON OF EACH FRIDAY!!

What if? - questions are asking for a nursing action or intervention, based on the information or situation you are given. How will you prioritize? What will you do first? What will you do next?

What else? - questions are asking for ADDITIONAL nursing actions or interventions, based on the information or situation you are given.  What should you do next? What other problems should you be aware of?

What then? - questions are asking for ALTERNATIVE nursing actions or interventions, based on the data or situation you are given. What further information do you need? If plan A doesn't work, what is Plan B?

REMEMBER - THINK ABOUT THE OBVIOUS AND THE NOT-SO-OBVIOUS, THE COMPLEX SOLUTIONS AND THE SIMPLE ONES!
