Adding -s or -es to nouns

Most nouns can be made plural by adding an -s to the end of the word. However, there are times when you need to add -es instead.

If the word ends in "s", "x", "ch", or "sh", then you must use -es in order to spell the word correctly.

Also if the word ends in "y", you must look at the letter right before the "y" to help you decide what to do. If the previous letter is a vowel (a, e, i, o, u), then just add an -s. If the previous letter is a consonant, then you must change the "y" to an "i" before you add the -es.

Select the correct plural spelling of each noun below.
