Dickenson-Douglass Test

Here’s the scenerio:
You are a graduate student in English at a prestigious university. You have been a TA for a renowned professor for the past semester; unfortunately, she was out of town and has taken ill unexpectedly. The chair of the English Department has asked you to take over her class until she can return. Here’s the catch: the professor had her lecture notes with her. You have to rely on your own knowledge to continue the course.
The first thing you must do (after telling the class that the professor is going to be out) is to re-cap the past several weeks. You want the students to “get” what you feel to be the major thematic elements of individual works and the thematic, historical, social, & psychological elements that tie the authors and their works together. Being already a brilliant scholar of American Literature, you are up to the task, but you must reshape the students’ understanding to match your own.
The authors covered were Dickenson, Whitman, Chiefs Joseph & Seattle, Anthony, Truth, Lincoln, & Douglass.
