Standardized Test Skill Builders for Reading: The Family Musician

When Ina was ten, she joined the school band. Her friend Val had already joined, and Ina didn't want to miss the fun. But band was not fun for Ina. She did not have much talent as a clarinet player, and she hated practicing. Even to her, the music she made sounded awful. Ina tried to quit, but her dad would not let her because he loved having a musician in the family.
Then one day something terrific happened. Ina's brother Kyle sneaked into her room and started playing her clarinet. Unlike Ina, Kyle really enjoyed himself and even taught himself to play a few tunes. Ina was delighted. She told Kyle to keep the clarinet. Then she smiled at Dad and said, "It's great having a musician in the family, isn't it!"
