How do students involve themselves when reading a text so they are reading in an active manner, with strong comprehension, engaged critical analytic skills and vivid imagination, and word attack skills that render the language clear?
How do students use information in or elements of the setting, specific word choices, characterization, the sequences of plot, imagery and figurative language, theme, to improve their comprehension and strengthen their retention of the reading material?
Students will realize that what they bring to a text, not just their background knowledge and prior reading experiences, but also their skills, knowledge, and habits of active reading techniques, will help them take from the text understandings that are memorable and rich.
