Life of Pi: Part One Test

You may use your book and an online dictionary.

When you are asked to support your writing with a correctly formatted citation, you should select the most appropriate direct quotation from the text and use parenthetical citation. Here is an example:

In the "Author's Note," we meet Francis Adirubasamy, who introduces the author to Pi. Mr. Adirubasamy, or Mamaji--as Pi calls him, spent his youth in Paris. Pi's parents were so impressed by Adirubasamy's stories of Parisian swimming pools that they named their younger son after "a pool the gods would have delighted to swim in" (11). While Piscine Molitor represented elegance and luxury as a swimming pool, it meant teasing and torment for their son, who refers to his name as a "crown of thorns" (20).
