Reading Comprehension 2: session mock reading comprehension 2

The ancient Egyptians were not the only people to create mummies. Ancient Peruvians also created mummies, and in the past few years, hundreds of them have been discovered in the dry, desert region of southern Peru. However, unusual mummies were also discovered last year in the high forests at the headlands of the Amazon River -- unusual for surviving in such a humid climate. Who were these people? Dr. Sonia Guillen, a Peruvian on the staff of the British Bioanthropology Foundation, has identified the mummies as upper class members of the Chachapoyas culture, also called the "cloud people." These people lived about 1,000 years ago, long before the Incas came to power. They contolled the Amazon headlands until A.D. 1470, when they were conquered by the Incas. Evidence of Inca influence is seen in the quipus, knotted strings used for counting, that were found in the graves. Also found with the mummies were embroidered textiles, wooden idols, decorated gourds, pottery, and other artifacts. <br>The ancient Egyptians were not the only people to create mummies.
