UNIT 21

There is only one hospital in the world for sick fish.
That hospital is found in Toba, Japan.
For the last ten years, the hospital has treated fish of
all kinds, from five-cent guppies to five-thousand-
dollar Japanese carp. Until the hospital started, sick
fish were left to die, no matter how much their owners
loved them.
Dr. Kataoka says that most ill fish have something
wrong with their eyes, fins, or scales. Usually the fish
can be saved just by pouring medicine into the water.
Sometimes, however, the fish have to be operated on.
Owners of sick fish in Japan are lucky to have such a
hospital. So are the fish!
