I currently have students in the following grades at Manatee High School (select all that apply)
9th
10th
11th
12th

My students have experienced the following schedules while in high school (select all that apply)
6 or 7 period days
4 x 4
A/B
A/B with a shortened period

What advantages do you see with the 4 x 4 schedule? With the previous 4 x 4 schedule 4 classes are taken every day for one semester and the other four classes the second semester.(select all that apply)
students only have 4 classes to deal with at a time
students have the same schedule every day
longer periods allow students to work on projects
students only have four exams at the end of the semester
teachers and students get to know each other faster
longer periods allow students time to practice new concepts in class
students can take more classes that interest them
students can retake courses in the same year
students can take consecutive courses in the same year : Spanish 2 and 3
my students have not experienced this schedule

What disadvantages do you see with the 4 x 4 schedule? (select all that apply)
too much information is covered in each period
absences put students so far behind
no time between classes to absorb difficult concepts
students are not enrolled in classes just prior to FCAT or AP exams
students do not need 32 credits to graduate
it is difficult to fill an 8 period schedule
there may be a year between consecutive classes if one is taken in the fall and then the next spring
uneven assignment of courses causing one challenging semester and one easy semester
quarters are only 4 weeks long so no progress reports were given half way through the quarter
it took so long to get report cards, almost half a quarter was over
my students have not experienced this schedule
none of these disadvantages were observed

What advantages do you see with the A/B schedule? With our current A/B schedule 8 classes are taken on alternating days, 4 classes on each day.(select all that apply)
there is more time between classes to absorb difficult concepts
extended absences cause only half the number of missed classes in each course
if busy with outside activities, there s another day to finish homework
students are in classes all year , just prior to FCAT and AP exams
only 4 classes each day
longer periods allow students to practice concepts
longer periods allow students to work on projects
students can take more classes that interest them
students can repeat classes if necessary

What disadvantages do you see with the A/B schedule? (select all that apply)
students are working on assignments for 8 classes
not knowing which day it is, A or B, without a special calendar
students have different schedules each day - first or last lunch
it is difficult to schedule college classes during the day
students do not need 32 credits to graduate
it is difficult to fill an 8 period schedule
students have 8 exams at the end of the semester
uneven assignment of courses causing one challenging day and one easy day
none of these disadvantages have been observed

not applicable, my students have only experienced one schedule

Which schedule was most stressful for your students?

A/B with a shortened period
not applicable, my students have only experienced one schedule

You may be aware that Manatee County is looking at a county-wide schedule of 7 credits for all 6 high schools in an effort to meet the requirements of the class size ammendment. Which plan do you think would be best? (This is for information only and should not be considered a vote for a certain schedule.)
seven 45 minute periods each day (similar to middle school)
3 x 3 plus - three 90 minute periods seen daily for a semester and one 45 minute period seen year round (similar to the 4 x 4)
A/B plus - six 90 minute periods with three seen every other day and a 45 minute period seen every day ( similar to A/B)
four 75 minute classes on Monday-Wednesday-Friday and three 110 minute classes seen Tuesday -Thursday (similar to college)
three 110 minute classes seen daily for a 75 day semester and four 80 minute classes seen daily for a 105 day semester
seven 45 minute periods seen on one day of the week , on the other 4 days three 90 minute classes which alternate and a shorter 45 minute period seen daily ( similar to Lakewood Ranch's schedule)
