Dear 5th Graders and Parents:
Welcome to 5th Grade! This page is intended to update you on weekly assignments and general information throughout the school year. It is updated on Sunday (occasionally, Monday) evenings as a general rule. It is not a substitute for your child's agenda, and it should be noted that plans ARE SUBJECT TO CHANGE in accordance with the pace of the class.
Some quick Weekly News Briefs:
1. You are welcome to join us for an All-School Liturgy Wednesday morning at 8:30.
2. 5B Students will enjoy one another's company on Valentine's Day by trying to guess each other's identity as babies. Have fun guessing, Cherubs!
3. Nearly each day this week, there is a test of some kind. Students, study well, then rest well.
Anticipated plans are as follows:
Science (5A and 5B, Monday-Thursday) We finishing a study of the Earth's biomes.
Monday: Chapter 6 Review, pp. B92-93, #1-15.
Tuesday: Correct Ch. Rev.; Review all, pp. B48-93.
Wednesday: Test, Ch. 6.
Thursday: Review puzzles and activities, WS 129-131.
Reading (5A and 5B) -
We continue a literature study for Bud, Not Buddy. A classroom copy is provided for student use, and copies are available when students are ill, but you may wish to obtain a copy from the library for home use. Notes will be kept daily, for use in studying for comprehension tests, on characters, setting changes, events, new vocabulary or expressions, and any conflicts.
Monday: Comprehension Test, pp. 63-139.
Tuesday: B,NB, pp. 139-148. "False clues" that lead Bud to wrong conclusion.
Wednesday: B,NB, pp. 149-160 (fluency practice). Describe HEC's character.
Thursday: B,NB, pp. 161-174. Bud's "meltdown."
Friday: Vocabulary practice, Ch.s 12-14.
Religion: This week, we complete our studies on the closing rites (Chapter 11).
Monday: Make Valentines for Kindergarten Buddies.
Tuesday: "Stump the Shepherd" Review game.
Wednesday: School Liturgy; Online Chapter 11 Review.
Thursday: Ch. 11 Test, Concluding Rites.
Friday: Unit 2 Test (open book).
English: We finish a study of Unit 9, Pronouns. We also continue ongoing practice using Simple Solutions Grammar; our usual weekly quiz schedule is revised such that the weekly quiz will be Friday.
Monday: Pronoun agreement with Referent Noun, pp. 312-313. HW: SS Grammar #81 and WS 72.
Tuesday: Unit Review (in class), pp. 314-315. HW: SS Grammar #82.
Wednesday: Unit 9 Test, Pronouns. HW: SS Grammar #83.
Thursday: HW: SS Grammar #84.
Friday: SS Quiz.
Vocabulary: We are reviewing Chapters 4-6.
Monday: No class; visiting Kindergarten Buddies during this time period.
Tuesday: Finish Ch.s 4-6 Review/Refresh activities, pp. 71-72.
Thursday: Intro to Ch. 7, Group A words, pp. 73 and 75. HW: p. 76 (top).
