Welcome back, Fifth Graders and Parents! Check this web page for general information about homework, upcoming projects, and other goings-on. Remember, please, that this site is ONLY a guide. Students should have ALL up-to-date information in their agenda planners. We continue to encourage effective, consistent use of these scheduling/planning tools. We have a regular schedule this week, more or less. Please join us as the Student Council leads us in the Living Rosary on the school basketball court on Tuesday morning at 8:30. It promises to be an uplifting, prayerful start to a busy week and month. Friday concludes our Fall fundraiser and our first quarter of school. 5A/5B Science: Students are concluding studies on plant structures and functions. It is a light week for homework, comparatively speaking, with students practicing setting good time limits as they study a little each night for Thursday's test. Parents can help by quizzing students on chapter vocabulary. Monday: Complete textbook review work, pp. A52-53. Students "Think-Pair-Share" to work on two of the essays that will be found on the test. Tuesday: Review all main topics. Wednesday: Students will refresh themselves on pollination fertilization, and germination, topics from pages 80, 81, and 83 of the next chapter, which I intend to skip. Thursday: Chapter 2 Test. Friday: Planet Earth video to introduce Animal Diversity. 5A/5B Reading: We are using our Reading textbook. Friday is test day on this week's story. Monday: pp. 84-86. Homework: WB 31-32. Thursday: We reread the selection, pp. 88-100. Friday: Weekly Test. In Religion, we begin our study of the Holy Trinity. On designated days, students are assigned a "Question of the Day" ("QOD"). These are answered in short answer (but complete sentence) form as a homework assignment. They will later reappear on a chapter test. Monday: Review how God himself revealed the trinitarian mystery, p. 39, then discuss how it was revealed by both Mary and Jesus, 40-41. Homework: QOD. Tuesday: We examine how our creeds specify the three divine persons of the Trinity, pp. 42-43. Homework: QOD. Wednesday: Legend of St. Augustine and how we reflect our belief in the Trinity in daily life, pp. 44-45. Homework: Worksheet and QOD. Thursday: We pray together, renewing our faith and complete the review exercise on p. 47. Homework: QOD. Friday: We practice using the website; students may elect to repeat this at home, e-mailing me the results for extra credit points on Monday's Chapter 3 test. In English, we will evolve to the noun's various usages in grammar. Monday: Subj. complement/direct object, WB 10-11. Homework: OB 147 #6-12 subj., verb, and SC or DO.
