The second Element of Art is LINE.

Lines are points in motion.  Contour lines define and describe the edges and surface ridges of a shape or plane.  Gesture lines are quick, rough lines that capture shapes, forms and movement.  There are five basic kinds of lines: Curved, Vertical, Horizontal, Zigzag and Diagonal.
Curved lines change direction gradually to form curves, spiral and circles.

Vertical lines move straight up and down and are perpendicular to the horizon.

Horizontal lines are parallel to the horizon (the line where the earth and the sky seem to meet) and give the impression of lying down.

Zigzag lines are diagonal lines that connect at points.

Lines can very in appearance in five major ways: Length, Width, Texture, Direction and Degree.
Length lines are lines that can be either long or short.

Width lines are lines that can be either thick or thin.

Texture lines are lines that can be rough or smooth.

Direction lines are lines that can move in any direction such as vertical (up and down), horizontal (left to right or right to left), or diagonal.

Degree Lines usually describe diagonal lines, but mostly describe curved and wavy lines.
