Steps for a good beginning to the school year...

The Fourth "R" for School Success is Responsibility!

Taking responsibility for your actions is an important step in becoming a self-disciplined student and it must be learned.

Parents are a child’s first teachers, so the very best place for children to learn to take responsibility for their own learning and behavior is right at home.

Best way to make a change is one step at a time. Focus on one or two ideas at a time.

Take these steps to help your child set goals and achieve them.

• At the beginning of the week, help your child identify one goal.

• Have your child write the goal on a piece of paper. Post it in a good location. Talk about how to accomplish the goal...break it into smaller steps.

• As the week progresses, ask how things are going and if problems come up talk about possible solutions.

At the end of the week help your child evaluate how well he or she did. Why or why not?

Praise for trying and set a new goal for next week.
