Agenda for Meeting on Tuesday, November 8, 2012:
1. High Ability Informational Handouts
2. Introductions
3. Highlights from New High Ability Coordinator Training on Oct. 3 – attended by Keith Ecker, Elizabeth Wright and Heather Elliott
a. Definition highlight: High Ability students are students with ability or potential above the 96th percentile, accounting for a margin of error. The DOE wants to make sure schools are not over-identifying. Strong core curriculum with differentiation should be in place to serve the vast majority of students. Special Education and High Ability Education are specialized programs serving students on the extreme ends of the bell curve.
b. Cluster grouping was endorsed as a model with significant research support – This is the model we are using.
4. Share 2011-12 High Ability Grant Final Report
5. Update on “To-Do” items from September Meeting
a. Identifying students in Schoolnet Programs Tab – in progress and due to be completed by Nov. 30.
b. Developing ILP forms to describe services being provided to each identified student – in progress – building administrators will determine completion schedule.
6. Update on multifaceted student assessment plan – COGAT - budget and plan. Process for narrowing the pool of students to be tested using the COGAT will need to be determined and written up formally.
7. Brainstorm / Discuss in Building groups -- creation of a High Ability Parent Support Group, or at least having a High Ability Parent Meeting for each building.
What topics need to be discussed
I would like to do a high ability parent survey
8. Next meeting: Thursday Feb. 7, 2013
