FOURTH GRADE:
We are currently studying parts of the body and will conclude the lesson this week. There will be a simple matching quiz involving picture cues on May 3. We will then play a few exciting games of "Simon dit." Our next unit of study will be an adjective one. We will be learning a group of basic adjectives in both their masculine and feminine forms, and there will be a quiz on meanings during the fourth week of May. We will also be watching a video of a familiar fairy tale in May. Our final lesson will be a review one in which the semester's work is revisited through a variety of written exercises accompanied by class activities. This lesson will carry us into June.
During the June weeks we will be completing all exercises of our review lesson, and we will take time to enjoy book/tapes and video. Textbooks will be sent home on Tuesday, June 8. I do hope that parents will enjoy reviewing the fine work completed during the semester. Merci, au revoir, and bonnes vacances!
FIFTH GRADE:
During the month of May we will conclude our unit on telling time (test on 5/10, 5/11) and do a full review of lessons 1 through 4. We will then have an introduction to -ER verbs, learn negation and a basic interrogative structure. If time allows, there will be a quiz on -ER verb conjugation at the end of the month.
We continue to draw comparisons between our culture and the cultures of French-speaking peoples everywhere and to work on correct pronunciation. I hope that the students are feeling more comfortable and enthusiastic about their work in French as the semester progresses.
During the June weeks we will be completing work on -ER verbs (test on 6/7 for 5B and 6/8 for 5A) and on the negative and est-ce que...? Our fifth grade studies will end with cultural video material that the students should really enjoy. Sixth grade French classes will resume second semester next year (January 2011). Textbooks will be kept at school over the summer months and will be distributed next year when studies will continue.
Bon travail, classe! Au revoir, et bonnes vacances, tout le monde!
SIXTH GRADE:
Great work on all the vocabulary for parts of the body! Rounds of "Jacques a dit..." were long and that was fun to see. Drawings were quite creative, and test results were excellent for most students!
During the month of May we will continue to practice calendar work (days, months, dates). There will be no new grammar associated with this lesson, and my hope is that all students will take advantage of the opportunity to earn high grades on the Lesson 10 test scheduled for May 10.
During the remainder of May, we will study several weather expressions, learn the four seasons, and drill the irregular verb FAIRE. The test on lesson 11 will be on Wed., May 26.
Excellent tests on lesson 11 material! Review for the final exam will take place in class and through homework assignments on 6/1 and 6/2. Classroom instruction will be reinforced by text review activities for lessons 5 through 11. The exam will take place on June 9 and will share a 90 minute time slot with LAE. Students are encouraged to ask for help in the mornings or at recess if they have questions on any of the material studied during the semester.
Students have made great progress this year! Au revoir, et amusez-vous bien pendant les grandes vacances!
