National French Week in early November was fun for all! The students enjoyed the trivia competition, and they learned from it each day. I'd like to extend a big "merci" to everyone who helped during prayer and the afternoon announcements with singing, the alphabet, and facts about France. To keep things interesting, we will be welcoming some surprise visitors in mid-December.
FIRST GRADE:
In November the students learned the names of several animals. They repeated, matched, answered questions, and colored. They listened to simple stories about animals as a conclusion to the unit. Parts of the head and face followed, and the students are currently drawing and labeling their heads and facial features. Their work is excellent once again!
December work will include listening to a simple book on tape and learning one or two basic songs. French Christmas music, vocabulary, and customs will be the focus of our classes before vacation.
A blessed Christmas to all, and a lovely holiday season!
SECOND GRADE:
What a great job with all those farm animals! We concluded with readings reviewing some of the vocabulary. Listening skills are an emphasis once again at this level.
Parts of the body, in particular the head and face, are our current work. Most of the students can correctly locate several parts and can identify and label them as well. We are currently playing little games to reinforce the vocabulary. We will be continuing listening development in December by using books with cassettes. These materials will review colors, numbers, and basic adjectives. As Christmas approaches, we will be discussing practices for celebrating the feast in France. We will also listen to carols in French and do some group singing.
To all families, a blessed Christmas and a wonderful vacation!
THIRD GRADE:
The return of our favorite feline, "Moustache," was a big hit in November. Parts of the body have been learned and reinforced through a series of worksheets including a picture sheet and a crossword puzzle. We are now ready to conclude by playing some friendly games of "Jacques a dit."
After our rounds of "Jacques..." we will learn a song about parts of the body. Further December studies will highlight a French video of a familiar fairy tale. This will help develop listening skills and review some familiar vocabulary. Christmas lessons will include readings, music, and cultural information.
SIXTH GRADE LANGUAGE ARTS ENRICHMENT (LAE):
Great work on the pronoun test! We will plunge into the adjective unit immediately as December begins. We will study descriptive, numerical, demonstrative, interrogative, and indefinite adjectives. Degress of comparison, irregular adjectives, and definite and indefinite articles will also be included. The unit test will be early in January.
Happy and holy holidays to everyone!
