It was wonderful to see so many students enjoying the fun and games! This week’s stories are A Good Idea and Annie’s Gifts. Skills we are working on this week include: long vowels at the ends of syllables; consonant sound k spelled ch; theme; and commas. There will be a math test on Tuesday on the measurement unit. Monday night’s homework will be a good review for this test. We will then begin our study of geometry, including plane and solid figures. In science, we’re continuing our study of animals. I am looking forward to seeing everyone’s animal alphabet page on Thursday. The Mount Vernon Field Day is this Friday. Students will be competing in various events and should be dressed appropriately for outdoor athletic competition and for the weather that day. You may wish to apply sunscreen before your child leaves home. Water will be available to students between events. The rain date for this event is May 29th. Looking ahead, all of second grade and their families will be gathering for an awards ceremony and picnic lunch on Thursday, June 11th. You will receive your official invitation for this event later this month, but please mark this date on your calendar now.
