Le Passé Composé avec avoir
Remember: The Passé Composé MUST have BOTH a form of avoir and a past participle!
Examples:
J'ai marché = I walked, I have walked, I did walk
Tu as parlé = You talked, You have talked, You did talk
Il a pris la photo = He took, He has taken, He did take the photo
Elle a fait ses devoirs = She did, She has done, She did do her homework
Qui a chanté? = Who sang, Who has sung, Who did sing
On a voulu voir la photo. = (We, they, one) wanted, have/has wanted, did want to see the picture
Nous avons commencé la classe. = We started, We have started, We did start the class
Vous avez mangé la tarte. = You ate, You have eaten, You did eat the pie
Ils ont pensé à Madame. = They thought, The have thought, The did think about Madame
Elles ont porté des pulls. = They wore, They have worn, They did wear sweaters
Form of avoir + past participle = Passé Composé for verbs conjugated with AVOIR!
The Past Participle of verbs conjugated with AVOIR agrees with a PRECEEDING DIRECT OBJECT.
Examples:
La glace? Oui, je l'ai mangée.
Les devoirs? Oui, tu les as faits.
Le livre? Oui, elle l'a lu.
Les nouvelles? Oui, on les a entendues.
Ta Tante? Non, nous ne l'avons pas vue.
Les profs? Non, vous ne les avez pas cherchés.
La tarte? Oui, ils l'ont prise.
Le Passé Composé avec être
The VANDERTRAMPP verbs are conjugated with être. The past particple acts like an adjective, and agrees with the SUBJECT in gender and number.
Je suis venu(e)
Tu es allé(e)
Elle est née
Il est descendu
On est entré
Qui est resté
Nous sommes tombé(e)s
Vous êtes rentré(e)(s)
Elles sont arrivées
Ils sont morts
The PRONOMIAL VERBS are also conjugated with être but they follow the avoir agreement. = They agree with the preceeding direct object.
Je me suis réveillé(e).
Tu t'es levé(e)
Elle s'est lavée. BUT Elle s'est lavé la figure.
Il s'est coiffé
Nous nous sommes habillé(e)s
Vous vous êtes baigné(e)(s)
Elles se sont couchées
Ils se sont endormis
