Welcome aboard Eager 8th Grade passengers to the Computer and Keyboarding Cruise Liner.
As your Captain, I will provide you with project-based instruction that introduces you to the principles of business in the 21st century while refreshing your keyboarding skills. The curriculum will help you to use computers effectively in your life, while providing a connection of computer science and business concepts. This year I look forward to . Activities and lessons will come in different forms; discussions, online activities, demonstrations, projects, assignments, etc. I expect each passenger to give 110% during our journey of Engaged Learning while Anchored in Excellence. When we dock at our different Ports of Call, passengers will participate in several different types of activities.
Careers and Colleges Country Passengers will explore multiple career pathways and their interrelatedness. They will become acquainted with the array of careers in society and examine educational requirements, job responsibilities, employment trends and opportunities within different career pathways. Passengers will create and present an Individual Career Plan using Prezi. Passengers will also act as ambassadors of colleges and universities and provide insight about college entrance requirements, facts and figures.
Entrepreneurship Island: (webquest) Students will understand concepts and processes associated with successful entrepreneurial performance. They will examine the basics of entrepreneurship and develop a new business idea. They will work as sole proprietors and make decisions on their own then students will work together to create and present a new business idea in the form of Shark Tank.
Computer Apps Island: Passengers will show mastery of computer application software that encompasses MS Word, Prezi, MS Excel, MS Power Point, desktop publishing and web based software. Skills are demonstrated by creating projects and completing assignments. Students will learn the importance of a cover letter and resume and create them. Students will utilize web page design software and web based games and activities to learn and obtain vital information to prepare for periodic evaluations.
21st Century Country:
Passengers will demonstrate employability skills such as working on a team, problem solving, organizational skills and Dress for Success. Students will develop and model employability skills. They will exhibit critical thinking and participate in a variety of activities that demonstrate 21st century employability skills.
Literacy Lagoon: Students will enhance reading in all curriculum areas and use research and technology to support writing. Students will use the writing the process to develop, revise and evaluate writing. Students will build vocabulary knowledge.
