Luther Phillips
Position:
Cisco Certified Networking Instructor
Geometry Instructor
Education:
Graduated from Southern Mississippi with a Bachelors of Science in Mathematics with Secondary Certification. My first teaching position out of college was in GCISD. I’ve been here ever since. I’ve taught every math class from Paced Algebra to PAP PreCalculus, as well as basic Pascal programming. Last year when we started the Cisco Networking Academy, I was chosen to be the instructor for Colleyville Heritage. This year I'm teaching Cisco I and Cisco II as well as getting back to my first love, teaching freshmen Geometry.
Background:
I was born in Mississippi and grew up and went to school in Alabama. I was blessed time and time again with the best teachers. I graduated third in my class from high school and went off to college in Mississippi. I always felt a calling to education, but resisted for quite some time. My mother is a teacher, and I saw first-hand the trial and tribulation of a public school teacher. During my junior year in college, I was informed that I had completed all the General Studies courses and had to declare a major. My advisor in the Math Department, where I had chosen to base my studies, recommended that I consider teaching. I decided to follow my calling and have thoroughly enjoyed it since then.
Educational Philosophy:
I believe it is the personal responsibility of teachers, parents, and society to challenge students to a degree that they develop the attitudes, skills, and disciplines to become free-thinking, problem-solving, productive members of their environment.
Personal Statement:
When I do manage to eek out some free time, I enjoy reading, mountain biking, and spending time with my lovely wife of six years and my new daughter.
