8th Grade Team 3 Expectations for 2009-2010 As a team, we try to be consistent with our expectations. We believe a certain level of order is required to create a learning environment that is beneficial to each student and allows the instructor to present lessons that actively engages all students. We expect every student to A. be in the room, seated, and ready to work when the bell rings B. tell the teacher before the tardy bell that a restroom trip or jammed locker may cause the student to be late to class C. already have a pass from the appropriate teacher before requesting to leave 8th Period or Homeroom D. follow school rules, such as keeping shirts tucked in, wearing clothing that covers the abdomen or back when standing or sitting, and refrain from chewing gum or other items. Team 3 students are issued two passes by each academic teacher every nine-weeks period that students may to leave the classroom after the tardy bell to go to their locker, the restroom or water fountain. Unused passes may be turned in during the next-to-last week of the nine-weeks for three bonus points each. Team 3 students may also use one Recognition Card for bonus points on a test. Academic teachers also issue one "HW Pass" each nine-weeks. The HW Pass may only be used once in each academic class for up to 20 points in place of a forgotten or lost daily assignment. It must be turned in at the time the assignment is due. To help prepare the student for high school, Team 3 teachers do not accept late "daily" homework. A long-term project will be accepted late, but its grade will be dropped a letter grade for each day that the project is late. Also, before a student checks-out or after a student checks-in, it is the student's responsibility to go to the teachers and turn in work that is due that day and get the new assignments. When a student is absent all day (or more than 3 1/2 hours), the student is required to bring a note from the parent or doctor within two days of returning to school. It is the student's responsibility to get assignments and make arrangements for completing make-up work. School board policy allows two days per day of absence to make-up work (long term project due dates are not extedned or a brief absence). Make-up work should be turned in as due; for an absence of three days, the first day's work is due in two days, the second day's work is due two days after that, etc. A student should not keep all of the homework until the last day (sixth day in this example). Only the work assigned on the last day of the absence should be turned in on the sixth day. Please do not cause your child to have an unexcused absence due to a planned trip. At least three days before the event, please remember to deliver a letter to Mr. Miles requesting that the trip or day be excused. Students are expected to get assignments in advance and have the assignments completed upon return to school. In twenty-five minutes about three hundred students and teachers eat lunch together each school day. It is important that students sit at their homeroom table so that they can be easily found if a parent needs to check them out during lunch. For safety, students are expected to clean up their own messes and not wander about the cafeteria. Students may use a Recognition Card to sit at another table for two days (or out on the patio), but the card must be signed by both teachers beforehand. A disciplinary slip will be issued to any student sitting at the wrong table, wandering around the cafeteria, or creating a disturbance or mess through horseplay. Table monitors are expected to wipe tables and sweep the floor at the end of lunch. They are not expected to clean up messes left by careless students. Table monitors should not leave until the teacher on duty has checked their work and excused them from the cafeteria. Please refer to the student handbook for other information. If you have a question or concern, please contact the teacher.
