Beginning with second quarter we will place even greater emphasis on developing your critical thinking skills. Each journal will provide you with an opportunity to practice these skills. First, a definition; to criticize means “to make careful judgments” and this is what will be expected of you as you journal during second quarter. To help you, I have included the following definitions of critical thinking terms; Analyze - to separate into parts; to sort out Interpret - to clarify the meaning of Relate – to connect Argue – to put forth reasons for and/or against; to debate Synthesize – to combine so as to form a new product or idea Validate – prove; verify Infer – to conclude from evidence Imply – to express indirectly; to hint; to suggest Beginning with today’s journal you will be assigned a specific critical thinking skill for each upcoming day.
