The concept is that nonfiction writing (this is based on what we actually saw, heard, smelled, felt while we were outdoors) is stronger when we have familiarity with the field or body of knowledge in question. Your writing about nature will be more convincing if you know and can use the particular names of some of the more common plants and trees in the area. Consider this the vocabulary of this unit.
