
This introductory course in algebra covers the following topics: review of selected pre-algebra
topics, introduction to set theory and the real numbers; simplifying algebraic expressions; linear
equations in one variable and their applications; linear inequalities; introduction to graphing
equations in two variables; systems of two equations in two unknowns and their applications;
systems of inequalities; polynomial operations; factoring polynomails; simplifying rational
expressions; solving quadratic equations by factoring. This class is taught either in traditional
lecture mode or through individually tailored, interactive computer instruction that provides the
student's primary method of learning, with the instructor available to assist students on
an individual basis during the class period. Prerequisite: completion of Math 075 or AMath 175 with
a grade of 2.0 or higher, or a COMPASS Pre-Algebra score of 60 or greater.
