LSR Fax Terminology 7

This game is intended to review common terminology and acronyms associated with Wireless & Wireline Porting.

Number PortabilityChanging service providers without changing your telephone number
Federal Communications Commission (FCC)The governing body over the telecommunication industry.
Service Provider PortabilityCustomer in one location keeps their number but changes to another provider serving the same geographic location.
Mobile Directory Number (MDN)The customer's telephone number.
New Service Provider (NSP)The service provider who's porting IN a new customer.
SubscriberThe customer.
Old Service Provider (OSP)The service provider porting OUT an existing customer.
Trading PartnerA competitor in the market space.
SPIDService Provider Identification assigned by the NPAC.
Intercarrier Communication Process (ICP)The means by which service providers communicate to port a number.
Service Order Administration (SOA)A means by which service providers can communicate to the NPAC.
Number Portability Administration Center (NPAC)7 regional databases that store information about all ported numbers.
Location Routing Number (LRN)The number stored at the NPAC with the ported MDN to allow for proper routing.
NeustarOwner of the NPAC
Service Management Gateway (SMG)Syniverse's tool for initiating and completing the ICC/SOA process
Message Processing Engine (MPE)Facilitates intercarrier communication between trading partners
FalloutAnything that doesn't go through during the ICC/SOA process.
TelcordiaSyniverse's partner in Number Portability Solutions.
New Network Service Provider (NNSP)The service provider who provides facilities for network routing.
New Local Service Provider (NLSP)The service provider that sends the bills.
Old Local Service Provider (OLSP)The service provider that previously sent the bills.
Old Network Service Providers (ONSP)The service provider who previously provided facilities for network routing
ResellerA company that resells telecommunication services.
SubscriptionRecord on the NPAC database.
VersionKeeps track of updates made to subscriptions.
Wireless Port Request (WPR)A NSP's request to port a subscriber's telephone number.
Wireless Port Request Response (WPRR)An OSP's response to a WPR.
ConfirmOSP says it's okay to port a number
Resolution RequiredOSP is requesting updated information in order to allow the port.
DelayOSP is requesting additional time.
Supplemental Port Request (SUP)A NSP's response to a WPRR with resolution required.
Create Subscription (Create SV)A message sent from SOA requesting the NPAC to begin a port.
Assumed ConcurrenceWhat the NPAC does if there is no response from the OSP.
ActivateActivates the subscriber for service with the NSP.
Local Service Management Systems (LSMS)Databases that mirror the NPAC and provide updates to the NPDBs.
Number Portability Databases (NPDBs)Databases that store MDN/LRNs for network routing purposes.
CrossroadsSyniverse's secure web gateway to all Syniverse products and services.
Port Request/Response AdministrationThe SMG menu option where service providers need to go to complete the ICP.
Port In RequestWhere New Service Providers need to go when porting IN.
Wireless Intercarrier Communication Interface Specifications (WICIS)Wireless industry rules for porting numbers.
TNTelephone Number (same as MDN)
ValidateA function that should always be done on port requests. It validates format of data on WPRs.
SubmitSends the WPR to the Trading Partner.
Waiting for response.Anything that is waiting in queue for a response.
Port Out ResponseWhere Old Service Providers need to go when porting OUT.
Sup 1 (Cancel)Tells the OSP to cancel the port request
Sup 2 (Change Due Date/Time)Allows the NSP to modify the due date/time on a port request.
Sup 3 (Modify)Allows the NSP to modify a port request and re-send.
RemarksThe field on the WPR/WPRR where service providers can communicate about a port. Required on a sup.
Fax Trading PartnerA competitor that can only fax WPR/WPRRs to the SMG.
Fax ServerWhere TP faxes are first received.
OCRFF (Optical Character Reader for FormsAn application that allows for manual intervention on fax ports.
ExceptionFaxes that come into the OCRFF are referred to as exceptions
Local Service Request (LSR)A request to begin porting a number with a wireline service provider. (similar to WPR)
LSR Response (LR)The wireline trading partner's response to a LSR. (Similar to a WPRR)
Firm Order Commitment (FOC)The wireline trading partner's response to a LSR. (Similar to a WPRR)
NightfireNeustar's GUI interface for LSR Express.
LSR ExpressNeustars GUI that interfaces with the SMG for Wireline to Wireless porting.
EUEnd User Information found on the LSR.
Customer Service Request (CSR)Part of the Pre-Order process. It's what wireline OSPs (except Qwest) require when using LSR Express.
Address Validation Query (AVQ)Part of the Pre-Order process. Some wireline OSPs (i.e. BellSouth & Qwest) require when using LSR Express.
Long Timers12 Business Hours (ICC), 18 Business Hours (SOA)
Short Timers30 minutes (ICC), 2 Business Hours (SOA)
NPTab where TNs and PONs can be queried on in LSR Express.
Purchase Order Number (PON)Port request number.
RBOC (Regional Bell Operating Companies)Wireline companies that subscribe to LSR Express.
ILEC (Incumbent Local Exchange Carrier)The wireline service provider that was in the market first.
CLEC (Competetive Local Exchange Carrier)The wireline competitor in a market.
LEC (Local Exchange Carrier)A service provider that provides local wireline service.
