9/24 We discussed the characteristics of an epic and applied them to Harry Potter and Beowulf. We completed a graphic organizer.
9/21 We solved Anglo-Saxon riddles, learned about alliteration, personification, caesuras, and kennings, and read and paraphrased Beowulf and Hrothgar's speeches from sections 4 and 5.
9/19 We created comic strips depicting our modernized versions of the first 3 sections of Beowulf and presented them to the class.
9/17 We read the first 3 sections of Beowulf and answers reading questions in groups.
9/14 We discussed life during the Anglo-Sazon era and filled out a graphic organizer comparing Anglo-Saxon society to our own. For homework, students wrote two-paragraphs about whether or not they would have liked to have lived during the Anglo-Saxon era which was due 9/21 for a quiz grade.
9/10 We discussed the Highland Springs High School Honor Code and the importance of having an honor code.We then divided into groups and read editorials about the honor codes at area universities. Questions about each reading were answered and then each group shared with the class.
9/5 We have had a great first day of class. Remember, have your syllabus signed and complete your Multiple Intelligences Worksheet to turn in Friday. We will begin our first unit of studies then.
