Chestnut Hill: The New Class by Lauren Brooke.
Friends and Horses at Chestnut Hill
By Amber Derks 1/27/09
Dylan Walsh learned who her real friends were. She also learned to not always take a dare when playing truth or dare. Dylan learned trust, friendship, and being careful about a lot of things. Plus she learned not to talk about something and assume that someone did something when they didn’t do it especially to a friend who has been really nice to you.

It all started when Dylan wanted to go to a school called Chestnut Hill. Chestnut Hill is a place were middle schoolers go which is why they have a junior jumping team instead of a regular jumping team. Chestnut Hill is a school and it also has the junior jumping team, which for every horse lover is something they would really want to be on a junior jumping team. When she went to the school she met some girls named Malory, Lani, Honey, and Lynsey who was a very mean and popular girl. 2 weeks later Lynsey had a party in her room and they were playing truth or dare and Lynsey dared Dylan to go out and get the horse Morello (who was Dylan's favorite horse) and get him ready to ride at night. When she got Morello ready she rode him in the dark and jumped him over the jumps she didn't get to finish earlier. Then her friends went to go get some flash lights because they didn't want to wake up the instructor and then all of a sudden Ms. Carmichael and the other riding instructor came out and told Dylan to get off of Morello. First of all how could they know it was Dylan because it was to dark to tell who it was? Dylan thought someone must have told on her because there is no way they would know that it was her.

Dylan got in trouble the next morning both instructors were there and they were also there with the principle of Chestnut Hill and they all were very disappointed with Dylan for doing something so ignorant without thinking because she and or the horse Morello could have got hurt. Plus Morello was a good horse and was actually her aunt Ms. Ali Carmichael's Horse and she would have been upset if Dylan or Morello would have gotten hurt. She didn't get expelled but she wasn't able to ride for 2 weeks and the junior jumping team competition was in 2 and a half weeks so she would only have a couple of days to practice before the competition. She now was off of restriction and could ride the horse again she only had a couple of days to practice with Morello before competing. Dylan and Morello practiced as much as they could before the competition. It was the day of the competition and Malory and Dylan had a big fight the day before. Dylan was getting ready and then Lani ran in and said please come talk to Malory she is packing to leave Chestnut Hill Lani had tried everything she could to try and stop her from leaving but she couldn't talk her out of leaving. So she knew that Dylan was really good at arguing with other people so she asked Dylan to talk Malory out of leaving. Dylan had finally talked Malory in to staying and they only had 15 minutes until Malory had to compete so they rushed down to the ring Lani had already had Hardy ready to go so Malory could get on and be the next one called into the arena. a couple of minutes later Malory came back in and had done a really good job there were a couple more riders before it was time for Dylan to ride. Later it was Dylan's turn to go into the arena she was really nervous they called her into the arena and she did good.

Dylan was so nervous to see what the other girls got because she still wasn't sure if she would make it on the junior jumping team or not. Then she was still nervous because there was one more round so she still wasn't sure if she was going to get it or not. Then it was her turn for the second round and Malory was definitely getting a spot on the team and Dylan was fifth in line so she had some time to rest. So Dylan was nervous again because this time it was timed. It was Dylan's turn and she did an excellent job with the time of one minute ten seconds with four faults. The next girl came in and she was behind Dylan with 8 time faults. There were still two more girls to go Olivia and Lani. Olivia got a clear round so it was now against Dylan and Lani. Which it turned out Dylan got the last spot on the team because Lani didn't do as good as Dylan. Dylan felt bad for Lani but Lani was ok with Dylan getting the last spot on the team instead of her which means Lani is a really good friend to be so humble about her lose of not getting on the team. So there they were all the girls who were one the junior jumping team. Dylan was so happy and she found out that neither Malory nor Lynsey (as mean as Lynsey was) told on Dylan that night that she got in trouble for being outside riding the horse. She never did find out who told on her but right now that didn't matter to her at all because she was on the junior jumping team now and was proud of Morello.

So Dylan learned not to take every dare like she use to take in truth or dare. She also learned who her real friends were and she knows they weren't the ones who told on her for example Lani, Malory, and Honey are her real friends at Chestnut Hill now. So she learned very valuable lessons not to always trust someone like Lynsey and not to be the best of friends with a girl like Lynsey. It also helps me to think about girls like Lynsey who aren't the greatest people to be friends with like people like Malory, Lani, and Honey. It also helps me to think before I take dare now when playing truth or dare.
