Dear PAR Panel:

This website was especially designed for you to share my knowledge, experiences, and teaching repertoire as a new teacher to the Prince George's County School System.

It is my goal that this website will be more informative and insightful for the 5th grade students that I have been assigned for the 2015-16 school year.

Currently I have 23 students.    About 29% of my class was moved within the school.  Meaning students were shuffled around from different classes until about Dec 16, 2015.  One student transferred from the school.  One student transferred in February 2016.

As a new teacher in the county, school culture and environment has a big impact on both teacher and student.  The  environment  in which a child is in affects them mentally, emotionally, and academically.  Regarding, environments in which the students interact at school are cafeteria in the morning from 7:30am- 7:45am,  specials class for 30 minutes each day,  cafeteria for lunch 30 minutes each day, and all other times with the classroom teacher.

As a new teacher, I have not and was not assigned a new teacher mentor.  The New Teacher's Academy at Suitland ES met on September 9, 2015 and there were no meetings since that time.  My first formal observation was conducted on September 30, 2015.

After my post observation conference, I was told by the administrator/principal she was recommending me to the PAR program because this would be great for my growth and development.  I met my PAR Consulting teacher on November 18, 2016

I have taken at least six courses in ERO for professional development:  Transcript Information By Credit Type

Besides teaching and learning, gauging the students opinion and soliciting feedback is very important to me.  Throughout the school year I administer teacher made surveys at least one per quarter.  I would like to briefly share results from my December 2015 survey.

Parental involvement is extremely important.  I have initiated a variety of activities to involve parent participation.  Through remind.com has proved to be more effective, than not using it.  Most parents and kids are using technology and social media to communicate.  I would like to show some samples of messages to parents.

Assessment Data from March 2, formal observation by the consulting teacher was 83% was the class average.  100%=9  90%=1 80%= 1 70%= 1 60%=1 50%= 1 40%=1 30%=1
It is possible that some students could have their heads on desk and still be attentively listening.  We stress positive body language in the learning environment.

In order to further engage students in learning, I have written and received a grant proposal for STEM.  Link listed at the bottom of page.

Parent surveys are administered at least 4 times during the year.  Mr. Houston also, uses Remind.com to communicate more effectively with parents.  Phone calls and parent conferences are also initiated.
