2014-2015 Band Handbook
Every student is issued an E.B. Stanley Band Handbook at the beginning of the school year. All grading policies, general band information and most dates of events are included. Come by the Band room any time to pick up another if needed.

Course Description
Intermediate Band: Continuation of musical skills previously learned in Beginner Band. Students must have completed one successful year of Instrumental Music to be in this class.

Class Expectations
Students will begin to use more articulations, perform scales, music in more difficult key signatures, and perform music at an intermediate level of difficulty. Ensemble skills will become more developed as students participate in the band setting. Students will describe concepts common to music and other disciplines , and will be involved in discussing various cultures, styles, composers, and historical periods. The 7th grade intermediate band is split into two sections: 7A - Brass & Percussion, 7B - Woodwinds. We will use the Essential Elements Book II as our method book to deliver instruction supplemented by various scale sheets, trill charts, music vocabulary lists, and counting worksheets.

Assignments
1. Scales
Students should be practicing ALL of their Scales as they are learned throughout the year.
These will be played individually for a grade.
2. Concert Music
All band students should have 5 concert selections that we are planning to perform at our upcoming concert. These pieces need to be practiced diligently until mastered. Band doesn't just play the best 5 players or best 11 - we play everyone, every time! Every student has an obligation to know their concert music!
3. Practice Records
Each student is graded on their homework. Homework in band is practice on their instrument. 100 min. per week= a grade of 100. Additional minutes will be counted as extra credit.
Once Practice Records are assigned, they must be turned in each week. Practice Records turned in on Monday or Tuesday will receive full credit. Five points will be deducted from Practice Records turned in on Wednesday. Five more points will be deducted on Thursday and five more on Friday. A parent or guardian must initial the Practice Record weekly to verify minutes practice.
