Biology Course Description:


In biology, students observe and analyze the characteristic properties of living organisms, including becoming familiar with homeostatic functions, exploring cellular structure and function and mechanisms of transport within cells, classifying organisms, and surveying the kingdoms of living organisms. Students utilize critical thinking skills to develop a greater appreciation of life and man's role in preserving life and the environment. They also analyze the cause and effect of the physical environment on the health and well-being of organisms, as well as develop skills in the application of proper laboratory techniques and safety. Components of this aspect of the course include microscopy, use of dissection instruments, and handling of laboratory chemicals and specimens.

Class Expectations:

Students are expected to follow the Code of Conduct outlined in the Washington County School Code of Conduct and behave according to the rules of the school. Respect is the key. We are fortunate in the United States to benefit from free and public education. I feel that this is a privilege that we as a society should value It is my philosophy to extend to you both my respect and my greatest effort as an instructor. I ask the same in return, both for myself and for your classmates.

Materials Needed for class:

You will need a 1 1/2 inch 3 ring binder with pockets on the inside. Of course you will need a supply of paper and graph paper as well as pencils and pens.
