Balanced Literacy Target: Students will infer main idea and use that to create titles and comprehensive paragraphs.

Today students read articles that were missing their title.  They found the main idea and supporting details and then created a title for the piece.  Next, they wrote paragraphs, and took out the first and last sentence and their partner then tried to fill in the  opening and closing sentences using only their supporting sentences as a guide.  There were both modeling and small group work and discussion.

Social Studies Target: Students will gain a clear understanding of each strand.

Today students looked at different artifacts and pictures and tried to decide which strand they represented and why.
