About me:
I have been working in Hew Haven since 2000, and have been here at Chavez since Barnard White Middle School closed in 2008. Before that, I worked in several other school districts in the Bay Area. I have taught all three grade levels of middle school science, as well as 8th grade Math and Algebra.
I moved to the Bay Area in 1993 to teach and attend Cal State Hayward, where I earned my teaching credential and my Masters Degree in Curriculum Development.
Before moving to the Bay Area, I was a Peace Corps volunteer, serving as a high school Science and Math teacher in the Kingdom of Swaziland in Southern Africa.
I entered the Peace Corps in 1989 after graduating with a degree in Biology and Spanish from Occidental College in Los Angeles. Living in Africa was a great experience, please ask me about it some time!
Africa was not my first time living in other countries, though. Growing up, my father's job had us moving all over the world. I studied 1st grade in Malaysia, 2nd grade in Trinidad, and third grade in El Salvador (where I learned Spanish). In 4th grade we returned home to Southern California, only to move back to El Salvador in the middle of 5th grade. During 7th grade we moved to Puerto Rico, where we stayed a whole 3 years! We returned to California when I was in 11th grade, and I was able to finish out my high school and attend college in the LA/ Orange County area. All in all, I attended 12 schools throughout my life; I was always quite jealous of students who got to spend their entire school career with some of the same people and friends.
I live in San Leandro with my husband (a retired school principal), and our pets: 2 chickens (Lolita and Goldie), our dog Chica, and our turtle Ding Dong. We enjoy working in our garden and traveling.
