Step 1: Turning on/off your Calculator
In the lower left hand corner, there is an on button. To turn on your calculator, press this button. To turn your calculator off, press 2nd (the big yellow button in the top left hand corner) and then press the on button again.
Step 2: How to Open Yellow Commands
Once your calculator is on and there is a flashing black box on the screen, press the yellow 2nd key. Once there is an arrow in the flashing black box, you are free to pick any of the yellow commands above the normal buttons such as QUIT, INSERT, A-LOCK, LIST.
Step 3: How to Open a Green Command
Once your calculator is on and there is a flashing black box on the screen, press the green ALPHA key. Once there is an A in the flashing black box, you are free to pick any of the green commands, which are letters or punctuation marks.
Step 4: How to Graph
Locate the blue buttons directly underneath the calculator's scene. Press the blue button that says Y=. Enter your first equation into Y1. To see the graph just push the button that says GRAPH.
Step 5: How to adjust a graphing window
Once an equation is entered into Y1 and you would like to change the viewing window of this graph there are two methods. The first one your calculator does for you. Go to the zoom button and type in the number of the desired setting. Number 6, zoom-standard is the most commonly used. However zoom-box allows you to focus in on one particular part of your graph that might be most important or simply cannot be seen correctly in zoom-standard. Zoom-out and zoom-in just make your graph go far away or come close up.
Step 6: How to set a graphing window
Sometimes you may be given a particular graphing window that does not come under one of the ten given windows. When this happens go to the blue button under the screen that says WINDOW. Here you can enter in all of the particulars of your window. Xmax and Xmin apply to the X axis measurements and Ymax and Ymin apply to the Y axis. If you increase the number in the Xres area your graph will be drawn faster. Once you have set all of your windows the way you want, simply press the blue GRAPH button and look at the glory of it.
Step 7: How to solve a simple equation
If you wish to solve a simple equation when you know something like Y=2 and Y=2x+5 simply put the 2 in the Y1 slot and the 2x+5 into Y2. Once you do this press GRAPH. Once both graphs have graphed press the 2nd key and then the blue TRACE button. Press five for the intersect command press enter to select the first line, enter to select a different second line, and a final enter to guess. The intersection can then be seen at the bottom of the screen.
Step 8: How to store numbers
Type in the number you wish to save onto your calculator. Good numbers to have on your calculator include the mole number, the speed of light, or the STP conditions: all numbers used constantly in Chemistry calculations. Once you have the number correctly entered into your calculator press enter and make SURE it is the number you want to be saved. Then press the
STO -->, located directly above the ON button. After you press the STO key select the letter that you would like to represent the number. Any of the letters found in the alpha command and the X button can be used. Type n the letter you want and press enter. To use the number stored simply type in the letter. The x button is the easiest to access but it is hard to keep track of the number n it because it is most commonly used.
