Essential Questions:
How do we study chemistry?
Why do we study chemistry?

Topic or Question
Explanation or Answers
How and why do we study chemistry?(read handout together)
You depend on chemicals in everyday life, such as when you add specific amounts of ingredients in a recipe to get the desired reaction, ex. A light fluffy cake.  Or ex. A material in your clothing which is stretchy enough to fit snuggly but breathable fabric which will not retain water but let it evaporate easily.

How do we model the macroscopic observations of a material in a solid, liquid and a gas based on the microscopic interactions between particles in the material?
We can model the interactions and spaces between atoms or particles to help explain what we observe in our macroscopic observations?

What is the difference between macroscopic and microscopic observations and models?
See pg 6 TB to help you answer this.
Draw a picture of a piece of lead in a solid state, melted state (liquid)?

Write and observation of the reaction of Baking Soda + Acetic Acid (Vinegar) → sodium acetate + carbon dioxide gas
(watch the demonstration and write observations here)

What is a chemical reaction?

What is the difference between an endothermic and an exothermic reaction?
