Pre-Calculus College Prep level mathematics course at GHAMAS / AAE is a prerequisite for AP Statistics. To be successful, a student needs to demonstrate a consistent effort, as well as very solid algebra skills. Outline of topics: Functions and their properties, Polynomial and Rational Functions, Exponential and Logarithmic functions, Trigonometric Functions, Vectors, Parametrics, Basic Combinatorics, the Binomial Theorem, and Sequences and Series. Text: Precalculus Mathematics for Calculus, Stewart, Redlin, and Watson; 5th Edition, Tho,son, Brooks/Cole; 2007 Calculator : Recommended and used in classroom presentations : TI-83 Plus or TI - 84 You may use any graphing calculator other than the TI-83+ as long as you assume responsibility for learning its operations and functions. No CAS (computer Algebra system) calculator may be used on tests nor quizzes. Grading: Assessment is based upon tests, quizzes, homework, class work, group work, and projects. A numerical average will be sent to your home school at the end of each marking period. Your home school then converts this average to a letter grade if letter grades are used on student reports. All grades are available on Power School. Check the Power School often! There are NO RETAKES!!! Homework is due next class. One day late is half credit. After that, no credit. AAE guidelines will be followed for excused absences. Extra Help: I am available for help during most X blocks in the classroom (240). If I am not available, see any other math teacher for the help you need. Use Saturday school as needed. Next Year: You will be prepared to take AP Statistics, or any college level mathematics course requiring Pre-Calculus as a prerequisite.
