
Keyboarding 6150 (Middle School)
Grade 6 (Six Weeks)
Prerequisite: None
Course Description:
This course is a nine-weeks course designed for middle school students to develop touch skills for entering alphabetic, numeric, and symbol information on the keyboard. Students learn to produce simple technical and nontechnical documents.

Course Final Goal:
Students should be able to type at least 20 words-per-minute by the end of the six weeks in order to retain their keyboarding skill. They should also obtain basic computer literacy in order to continue in a computer applications class in either 7th or 8th grade, which covers the Virginia Computer/Technology SOLs.

Basic Microtype Tutor. Kratzer, Richard and Cook, John, J. E\Weston Walch Published, 1988. (Basic Microtype Tutor is utility program used for speed drills and accuracy drills. It automatically computes student’s speed and accuracy.)

Student Writing Center for Windows. The Learning Company, 1993. (A word processing program, including scalable graphics, a spell-check and thesaurus utility.)

Grades are awarded from the following, which are included in the Student Portfolio:
1. Summary lesson reports from Typing Time software.
