Dear Parents:

The material you will find on this page makes up the bulk of the grade four math course. At the top of the page you will see a table of links. Please take a moment from time to time and visit some of these sites with your son or daughter.

Below the table you will see a breakdown of the themes our class will undertake this year.

Aquamath	This is a LearnAlberta website. It is in French. There are lots of interesting and fun games and activities to do.
Mathfrog	This website is available in English and French. Lots of good activities here.
Estimation by rounding	Fun estimation game.
Pattern blocks	The same pattern blocks we use in class are available on this site. This is good if you need to do activities with blocks but you do not have the actual blocks.
Woodlands Math zone	Interactive math activities.
Illuminations Activities	This site has some excellent math activities. Make sure to check it out.
National Library of Virtual Manipulatives	This is a great website with lots of interesting activities to do. The virtual manipulatives let you do activities with fractions, patterns, shapes and lots of other stuff.
King's List of On-line Math Activities	There are more links at this page than you could shake a stick at.
Cash Out	You're the cashier at this crazy store. You need to give change to customers buying things. Try to sell as many items as possible.
Fraction Shapes	Fun with fractions. Use pattern blocks to solve problems involving fractions.
Create a Graph	This site will help you create graphs.
Bright Sparks	There are fun math games to play at this site.
Ask Dr. Math	Answers to all sorts of math questions. This site might be a bit advanced but have a look at it anyway.
Symmetry	This is an interesting geometry site. Learn all about symmetry and other geometrical concepts.

Our math program is based on the textbook Mathématique.

There are 8 modules to study in the program. Each module is divided into as many as 14 lessons. Our goal is to complete 2-3 lessons per week.

Module 1 Les régularités et les équations (patterns and equations)	This module contains 6 lessons. In this module students will: • Investigate and describe patterns in tables and charts. • Extend number patterns. • Use concrete materials to display patterns. • Use patterns to solve problems. • Write and solve equations.
Module 2 Les nombres naturels (natural numbers)	This module contains 13 lessons. In this module students will: • Recognize and read numbers • Read and write numbers in standard and written form. • Compare and order numbers. • Use diagrams to show relationships. • Estimate sums and differences. • Add and subtract 3-digit and 4-digit numbers. • Use personal strategies to add. • Pose and solve problems.
Module 3 La multiplication et la division (multiplication and division)	This module contains 10 lessons. In this module students will: • Use different mental math strategies to multiply and divide. • Multiply by 0, 1, and 10. • Divide by 1. • Recall multiplication and division facts. • Identify and describe patterns in a multiplication chart. • Relate multiplication and division. • Pose and solve story problems using multiplication and division. • Write and solve equations.
Module 4 La mesure (Measurement)	This module contains 13 lessons. In this module students will: • Tell time to the nearest minute using 12-hour and 24-hour clocks. • Read and record the date in various formats. • Estimate and measure area. • Construct different rectangles for a given area.
Module 5 Les fractions et les nombres décimaux (fractions and decimal numbers)	This module contains 14 lessons. In this module students will: • Model, name, and record fractions. • Compare and order fractions. • Interpret and model decimals as tenths and hundredths. • Explore equivalent decimals. • Use decimals to record money values. • Add and subtract decimals to hundredths, including money.
Module 6 La géométrie (geometry)	This module contains 7 lessons. In this module students will: • Name, describe, and sort triangular shapes. • Construct prisms from nets. • Construct models of prisms. • Identify, create, and sort symmetrical shapes. • Draw lines of symmetry.
Module 7 L'analyse des données (Data management)	This module contains 5 lessons. In this module students will: • Read and find information from pictographs and bar graphs. • Use keys and scales to construct pictographs and bar graphs. • Answer questions and solve problems.
Module 8 Multiplier et diviser de plus grands nombres (multiplying and dividing large numbers)	This module contains 11 lessons. In this module students will: • Use personal strategies to multiply and divide. • Estimate products and quotients. • Use models and arrays to multiply and divide. • Multiply a 2-digit and a 3-digit number by a 1-digit number. • Divide a 2-digit number by a 1-digit number. • Relate multiplication and division. • Identify and describe patterns in multiplication and division.
