Name: MS. DETNA KACHER
Ms. Kacher has taught high school health science courses since 1997 and worked as a clinical instructor/coordinator throughout Houston's Texas Medical Center since 1990. She writes state-wide curriculum with the UNT Health Science curriculum team and participated in writing the 2010 Health Science Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) for World Health Research.
Ms. Kacher holds undergraduate degrees in Allied Health Science, Anthropology, and Psychology. Her graduate degrees are in Behavioral Science. Ms. Kacher is also a registered vascular radiographer and a youth therapist conflict resolution mediator. Her recent professional development education includes Bioengineering and World Health at Rice University in Houston, Texas and Teach Epidemiology at the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) in Atlanta, Georgia.
Before teaching high school, Ms. Kacher worked for Baylor College of Medicine with the Michael E. DeBakey Cardiovascular Research team. She has also taught medically related courses at the college level and provided clinical instruction throughout the Texas Medical Center in Houston, Texas.
In 2003, Ms. Kacher received a Texas Outstanding Lifetime Distinguished Teacher Award. She was also recognized in 2006 as the Outstanding Area II Teacher by Texas Health Occupations Association, Inc. (THOA).
Some of Ms. Kacher’s outside interests include: reading, canoeing, traveling, herbal gardening, birding, and making balms and body powders.
