I am not an expert in poetry but there have always been certain poems and poets that have spoken to me. Shel Silverstein is one of them. I used to read his works to my children as well as the students in my classes over the years. Yes I still love them. The poems are sometimes silly, sometimes serious but they have always meant so much to me. Maybe you will enjoy them too.

“Le pregunté a la cebra,
¿Eres negra con rayas blancas?
¿O blanca con rayas negras?
Y la cebra me contestó,
¿Eres bueno con malas costumbres?
¿O malo con buenas costumbres?
¿Eres ruidoso con momentos tranquilos?
¿O tranquilo con momentos ruidosos?
¿Eres alegre con algunos días tristes?
¿O triste con algunos días alegres?
¿Eres pulcro (neat) con modos chapuceros (sloppy)?
¿O chapucero con modos pulcros?
Etcétera, etcétera, etcétera... continuó la cebra.
Y nunca más volví a preguntarle a la cebra sobre sus rayas”
