The Distinct Cultures of the 4 Regions of Africa Lesson Plan
Opening Activity:
Question of the Day:
Say: Write down the question and answer for the question of the day into your own notebooks. You will have a chance to share your answer with the class and I will provide some short lecture about the question of the day after the answer is revealed and mentioned.
The different peoples of North Africa are unified by:
a. Government and Islam
b. Islam and the French language
c. The Arabic language and Islam
d. Buddhism and Islam
Discuss the answer with the class after they have had enough to record the question and answer into their notebooks. Go over and show related slides to help explain more details about the question of the day. Slides 5-7 will help educate students about the question of the day.
Say: Today is February 1st, and Black History Month is the first day of our time to start taking some time to celebrate and study how Black Americans have positively impacted our country and the entire world!
Say: Let me pick someone to read the objectives of the day. _____________can you read the objective out loud to the class since you seating quietly and showing a sign you are eager to learn. Make sure the slide with the objective is displayed. The slide number should be #9.
• Students will analyze the distinct cultures of the different regions of Africa.
• Students will examine the distinguish differences of the different cultures of Africa, and they will determine which areas or least and most diverse.
Introductory & Video Activity
• Say: WE will now watch a short video to learn more about the different cultures of Africa. Please record facts as you listen to the video into your own notes.

• After the video discuss the following questions with the class and they are located on slide # 12
a. What is the most important topics you have already learned about the culture and diversity of Africa?
b. What new thoughts do you now understand about Africa after watching the video?
Instructional/Middle Activities:
Say: For today’s instructional activity, you will need the classroom textbooks. Please check your desk and make sure you have a textbook.
Say: You will complete a graphical organizer as you read each section of the four different cultures. You can answer the section question on the provide handout for the package that will be given to you shortly.
Important: Go over Slide 13 with the class so that they will know specifically what they have to read in the textbook.

Closure/Summary: Have students respond to the following question onto an index card or a half sheet of paper. This handout is their exit ticket. The teacher will score the exit ticket later as well.
• Which African culture you have studied seems most interesting? Why? Write response and explanations into your notebook.
Closing and Wrapping Up Activities: Say this:
• Turn in all handouts rather you are done or not.
• Ms. Simmons will allow one more day to complete this lesson and activities.
• Place book back inside desk neatly
• Push in chairs and exit the classroom out the appropriate exit door area.
• It is Ok if you did not get all work done you will have another day to complete the reading and the lesson handouts.
• As you leave the classroom hand me your Exit Ticket.
