eggleston Mr. E.
Glasgow Middle School Raptors/Language Arts/Social Studies/Reading
Welcome to Mr. E's web page.  Congratulations on making it halfway through sixth grade!  You're closer to seventh grade than fifth now, so things will no doubt get more challenging.  As you've shown so far, you can handle it.

Social Studies:  This quarter we will be studying the American Revolution, The Constitution, and Westward Movement.  We will also be taking a field trip to a Civil War battlefield near Pamplin, VA.  This comes early in the year, so we will be asking questions about what we see--questions we will answer as we progress with our study of the Civil War next quarter.

Language Arts:  We will continue with Historical Fiction.  Students will read books of historical fiction individually and in small groups.  We will also read some biographies of famous early Americans.  In writing we will continue to work on expository essays, including narrative, compare/contrast, and persuasive essays.  Hope you are enjoying either Where the Red Fern Grows or Witch of Blackbird Pond.  Writing and vocabulary will continue to draw from our reading.

Reading:  Students will read independently using the Accelerated Reader program as they choose a book from a specific genre.  This quarter's genres are HISTORICAL FICTION and BIOGRAPHY.  We will connect to these genres in language arts.  Students are required to challenge themselves with quantity and quality of reading to pass this course.
