Mrs. Gebbie's 3rd grade class likes to read, read, and read some more! The students also like to share what they've read with others. This class page gives activities for students to learn story elements and then use the story elements to write book reports. Book report forms for fictional stories, as well as other types of books, are listed. Several other types of book reports that will be used in Mrs. Gebbie's class are described below: Paper Bag: (1) Students will decorate the outside of a paper bag showing the title, author, setting, characters, events, problem/conflict, and conclusion. (2) Then students will place 5 to 7 items in the bag to represent the main characters or events from the book. (3) The students will present the book report orally to the class and explain how the things in the bag relate to the book. Mobile: Students will make poster board cut-outs illustrating story elements. The cut-outs are then hung on a clothes hanger with varying lengths of string. Character Puppets: Students will make paper-mache or sock puppets of the main characters in the story. An oral book report will be given describing the characters and their role in the story. Diorama: Students will use an empty shoebox to create a scene from the story. Poster: Students will make a poster encouraging others to read the book. Paper Quilt: Students will illustrate story elements. The illustrations are then pieced together to make a paper quilt. (This would be a great group project.)
