                      ¡BIENVENIDOS A LA CLASE DE ESPANOL!

Welcome to an exciting year of Spanish. This year we will be learning to communicate more in the Spanish language and learning about the Hispanic culture.

         Please keep in mind that I teach 2 different grade levels, so be sure to look at the correct sections for your grade!

Get ready for an exciting and fun filled year!

This website is designed for students and parents to stay informed about Señora Hrabovecky's Spanish class. I consider it a privilege, as well as a great responsibility, to introduce you to the Spanish language and Hispanic culture. Language is a bridge to understanding other people and their perspectives, which helps us better understand our world. I am looking forward to meeting some of you for the first time this year, as well as seeing familiar faces!

Please scroll down to learn more about what we will be doing throughout the year, our classroom expectations and procedures. Keep in mind that there are two grades ( 6th & 8th) represented here, so make sure to look at the title of each section as you read.

Grado 6:
The curriculum is based in conjunction with the New Jersey Core Curriculum Content Standards for World Language on the series Realidades A, which is used as a basis for vocabulary and thematic units, but many supplemental resources--Internet websites, films, music, stories, poems, newspapers, pictures, gestures, student pen-pals--are used to make the language and culture come alive for the students.
At this level, students are being provided with input (both spoken and written) through teacher and class discussion, pictures, gestures, stories, songs and videos.   The Hispanic culture, as well as cultures from all over the world, are shared and experienced in order to gain new perspectives and a broader understanding of language and life.

Grado 8:
In 8th grade Spanish this year, students will not only be learning a language, but will seek to gain new perspectives as well. We will be focusing, of course, on Spanish and the Hispanic culture, but will also take time to explore other languages and cultures as a way to gain a broader understanding of the world in which we live.

*Did you know that learning a new language actually makes you smarter in general? Your ability to "figure things out" is crucial when learning another language, and it will carry over into all other aspects of your life.

* (Quia is used as an extra resource to help reinforce vocabulary not as a primary source of studying. Use your class handouts textbooks and notes to study. You need to memorize vocabulary definitions and charts.)
