Spartanburg Christian Academy Cheerleading Rules & Consequences From there they have gone up cheering, and the city resounds with it. …That’s the noise you hear. 1 King 1:45 It is our desire to teach the girls that we are more than cheerleaders who happen to be Christians, but that they are Christian cheerleaders. We will uphold the SCA Cheerleading Policy. A. General Rules 1. Cheerleaders shall: a. maintain a 2.0 grade point average, and b. Not have any F’s in any subject. 2. Every member of the squad shall attend cheerleading camp, unless the coach and athletic director approve absence. 3. Each cheerleader shall have a complete physical by a physician prior to attending cheerleading camp, which will be held for one week during the summer months. 4. Cheerleaders are expected to work as a team. Individual members of the squad are encouraged to be close friends. Squad members’ friendships or non-friendships shall not have a negative effect on the team. 5. Each squad member is responsible for all of the clothing, uniforms, and equipment assigned to her. Care must be taken to insure such clothing, uniforms, and equipment is clean and presentable condition. Each squad member shall safeguard her clothing, uniforms, and equipment and shall be, therefore, personally liable for its replacement for loss or damage. 6. Other rules concerning cheerleaders may be promulgated verbally or in written form by the advisor. Violation of these additional rules may result in disciplinary action. 7. Violations of any cheerleading rules shall subject the squad member to discipline. The advisor levies final discipline. In most cases, the captain will be advised/consulted with in relation to a squad member’s discipline. 8. A serious violation of these rules or repeated violation shall result in one’s being suspended from the squad. Less serious violations shall result in one’s loss of the opportunity to travel to away games, or other various activities concerning the team. A squad member may be suspended from cheering one or more games due to violations of these rules. 9. These rules and regulations are subject to addition and change when found necessary and beneficial. The advisor makes final acceptance of all rules. B. Practice 1. Cheerleaders shall: a. attend all regular practices, b. not be tardy or absent from practice, c. Notify advisor as soon as possible if she finds it impossible to attend practice or know she is going to be tardy. 2. Girls are to wear clothing pleasing to God. Shorts may not be rolled at the waist, and shirt must be able to be tucked. No body piercing or stomach showing. No earrings at practices or games. (Clothing must adhere to school policy!) C. Games 1. Cheerleaders shall: a. attend all games, and/or special scheduled games or activities b. arrive at the game 30 minutes prior to start of game, unless the advisor designates an earlier or later time c. Arrive at the game ready and prepare, e.g. make up and hair done, uniform or required dress on, etc. 2. Away Games a. Travel to and from games will be in accordance with school rules and regulations. b. The squad will travel with a chaperone as a group and return as a group.(Must see athletic director if not riding with squad before event) c. Final authority of all decisions made while traveling shall rest with the advisor. d. An itinerary will usually be given to each cheerleading traveling. The itinerary will include times of departure, arrival, etc. If the Cheer team travels to a cheerleading camp and or to a cheerleading Competition, telephone number(s) of camp and competition site will Be provided for emergency cases. D. Consequences Missed Games and Practices 1. Practices a. First offense – 12 laps to be done AFTER practice(or miss one game) b. Second offense- 24 laps to be done AFTER practice(or miss two games) c. Third offense- Dismissal from the squad 2. Games a. First offense- 36 laps (3miles) done AFTER practice(or miss three games) b. Second offense- Dismissal from the squad Tardiness to Games and Practices 1. Practices a. First offense- 6 laps (1/2 mile) b. Second offense and every offense there after- penalty will increase c. If tardiness becomes frequent, dismissal is likely. 2. Games a. First offense- 24 laps to be done AFTER practice (or miss two games) b. Second offense – 36 laps to be done AFTER practice(or miss three games) c. Third offense- Dismissal from the squad. Late being pick up from games and practices 1. Practices a. Students will be sent to study hall. b. School charges if you are late after 6:00 pm c. If practice is later than 6:00 pm you will receive one warning and then any after will miss cheering at the next game. 2. Games a. First offense - warning b. Second offense - miss cheering at next game c. Third offense - dismissal from the squad. Infractions to school policy 1. First offense – probation for 1 week (may not participate in practice or games) 2. Second offense- suspension from team for 2 weeks (may not cheer at games) 3. Third offence- dismissed from squad. Remember, if God is not first, our squad will not be successful! The only way to give God our best is practice, practice, and practice. Attendance is essential. F. Lettering Requirement for Varsity Cheerleaders. You must have cheered for the varsity squad to be eligible for a varsity letter, plus complete the required list. 1. Follow the athletic code 2. Pass chant, stunt & safety test 3. Attend 90% of practices and games 4. Participate in school supported activities and fund raisers 5. Create a spirit routine 6. Participate in a minimum of 1 community service project 7. Return all uniform items in good condition 8. Show respect to team and coach at all times
