Course requirements.

The class web page is located at http://www.quia.com/pages/itv3cycle.html

The page lists Marking Period "A" assignments and links to Marking Period "B" assignments. The first marking period of your class is "A". The second marking period of your class is "B". It is the student's responsibility to check the web page daily and know what assignments are due. A large amount of help and instruction is found on the web page including details of requirements for specific projects.

Required materials for class:

  • A 2" three ring notebook with clear cover that allows insertion of a paper cover and back. This notebook will be kept at school and used daily to keep and reference notes and track work finished. The notebook should be obtained as soon as possible but not past 1 week of the start of class.
  • An e-mail address at yahoo.com - we will get (for free) together in class.
  • A web site at geocities.yahoo.com - we will get (for free) together in class.
  • A pen or pencil
  • Optional - page reinforcements to keep work from ripping out of notebook.
Understand and follow General Rules for class behavior on the next page as well as this quick list of expected behaviors. Be on time, be quiet at the start of class, have notebooks out and ready, have computers on, and log into correct log-in, do not send e-mail, im's, listen to music, download or install programs on the computers. Do not use the internet for improper sites, be respectful of all people with all work done in class, use appropriate language in class and assignments. Penalties include demerits, detention in class, school detention, parental conferences and so forth.

General Rules and Information

The marking period projects are "open ended". You should never be saying "Ok, I'm done now so I am going to ...."fill that in whith your favorite non class activity. I can only show you some of what you need to know, so much more rests in your searching, finding and trying information about the programs. The "A" student wil be the student who seeks to learn more than the basics that I show you in class.

DO NOT PLAY GAMES IN CLASS during work time, you may be given a demerit point each time your are found off task, based on your lack of class participation. Demerits count as 1/10 of one point deducted from your final GPA.

E-mail and the internet may be NOT be used during the class time unless it is related to the class work. Instant messages, downloading songs, pop-up e-mail has become a major problem and will result in a demerit and phone call home if it is done in class.

All assignments should be handed in ON TIME. Some assignments handed in on time may be resubmitted to improve the grade (restrictions apply by assignment). Late assignments will be graded at least a 1/2 grade lower. All make up or resubmissions of work must be handed in by one week before the end of the cycle to get credit. Work submitted after that date will only be considered to avoid failure that results in loss of credit.

Grades will be based on class participation, self advancement, and mastery of skills as demonstrated by

  • practical tests
  • individual and group projects
  • On line quizes and tests
  • homework
  • timely completion of work

A practical test is one in which one is required to do the skills, not answer questions about doing the skills. For example, You might be used to a test question asking "how do you create a drop cap in Appleworks?". In a practical test the assignment will be, "Change the first letter of this report to be a drop cap."
