Unit Objectives

Environmental Science -- By the end of 7th grade, students will investigate and understand facts, concepts, principles, and models related to living systems and the factors that regulate and influence organisms within these systems.

7.4.1 Investigate and explain populations and interactions in an ecosystem
a. Identify the needs met by an organism’s habitat
b. Describe levels of organization within an ecosystem
c. Identify biotic and abiotic parts of an ecosystem
d. Explain what causes populations to change and identify factors that limit population growth
e. Explain and describe adaptations and interactions among organisms

7.4.2 Investigate and understand ecosystems and biomes
a. Identify energy roles of organisms in an ecosystem
b. Describe how much energy is available at each level of the energy pyramid
c. Organize and diagram food chains and food webs
d. Describe ways in which organisms disperse
e. List and describe the Earth’s major biomes

7.4.3 Investigate and understand Earth’s living resources
a. Describe how decision makers balance different needs and concerns related to environmental issues
b. Identify factors that affect biodiversity including human activities
c. Explain the value of biodiversity
