Welcome to grade 8 Advanced English class. This class will challenge you intellectually and the workload will be comparable to a high school English class.
Students will read and critically analyze literature to become astute readers who can discuss, interpret, and write about literature. Response to literature essays will be perfected for form and content.
Students have completed Flowers for Algernon by Daniel Keyes. We have begun our five paragraph essay on a topic of choice for the novella. All essays must include a thesis statement, a minimum of three internal citations, and proper MLA format for citing. Students can begin reviewing for a unit test on FFA. Review website are below to begin studying.
Students are learning grammar and discovering how verbals can improve their writing. I am attaching a power point on verbals: gerunds, infinitive, and participles so that students can study in the event that we have a snow day on Monday. Students will have a quiz on Wednesday, March 5th on verbals. Students should study their handout on verbals and prepare.Verbal Powerpoint
