Below are 6 territories that the U.S. either acquired or controlled. Some of them have become states, others are still territories of the U.S. and some of them have become independent countries.
1. Puerto Rico & Guam
2. Philippines
3. Panama
4. Alaska
5. Hawaii
6. Control of Cuba (1899-1959)
Create a 5 slide powerpoint presentation on one of the lands above answering the five questions below. OR write a five paragraph essay addressing the same five issues.
1) why we wanted the land (Introduction)
2) how the US acquired the land
3) what were the problems/benefits of ownership
4) what is the US relation to this land today
5) closing statement
How Much Extra Credit?
Receive 1-2 percentage points for each land depending on your work. If you do a good presentation on ALL SIX, then you can receive up to a 12% point increase in your grade that jumps at least one grade level. Project DUE the day I return, Oct. 15th.

You can use textbook pages 342-362 or online sources. But it must be summarized in your own words. Do not cut and paste. Powerpoint can of course use pictures, but must have sufficient text to explain it.
