Special Event
As many of you may know, Ethan will be missing school next week as he undergoes surgery. As a way of letting Ethan know we will be thinking of him during this time, we will have some social time together as a class on Friday morning at 10:30. Any snacks that parents send in to share during that time will be appreciated. Please let me know via e-mail in advance if you plan on sending anything.
Big Buddies--> Mr. Porter and I would still love to get our students together for "Big Buddy" kite flying some afternoon. Because the weather is always so unpredictable, it would be great if you could send in a kite this week with your student and we'll just wait and see. If your child has a kite he or she can bring in, that would be wonderful. That way we will be all set to go whenever we get a windy afternoon. Mr. Porter and I hope that we will have enough kites between the two grades so that each pair of buddies will have a kite to share.
In reading, students are wrapping up the "Family Time" theme unit. As an extension of this theme, students will be asked to interview a senior family member or senior family friend. Students will be producing a list of questions for this person in order to write a brief biography.
Students are also continuing to work towards a goal of reading 100 books in Accelerated Reader. Many have already completed that goal! As a class, second graders have read 2,194 books. The average reading level among those books is 3.1 (early third grade).
